BUYER PRE-CLOSING CHECKLIST

BEFORE CLOSING:
GET HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE – your lender will need verification of
this prior to closing. The insurance will be calculated and included in your
monthly mortgage payment.
NOTIFY the following applicable companies of your new address in order to be
setup or have your account transferred and assure continued service.

Security/Burglar Alarm - Dependant on system installed and/or
personal choice.
Trash Service – Not necessary to notify anyone if in Denver County.
Residents in other areas should contact independent contractor of choice.
Water/Sewer Service – This service will be automatically transferred
and set-up at the time of closing by the title company.
Post Office – fill out form at current post office or go to their website.
BRING TO CLOSING:
Driver’s License – or Passport or some other form of picture ID. Allow at least ONE HOUR for the closing.
Cashiers Check – for the amount that you will need to bring to the closing. Have the check MADE PAYABLE TO YOURSELF. You will endorse the check over to the Title Company at closing. The amount of the check is on the Settlement Statement and indicated as “CASH AT CLOSING”. I will review this with you.
Power of Attorney – if jointly purchasing and one of you won’t be attending the closing in person.
AFTER CLOSING:
Change the locks on your new home after taking possession.
Log-on and change your address for all banks, charge cards, investment accounts, and medical providers that you use. DON’T FORGET to notify any website which has your home address as part of their record.
Notify your workplace, school, church and medical providers of your new address.
Tell yourfriends, relatives, work associates, buddy lists, and Christmas Card lists of your new address.
Get Vehicle Registration and Plates – in the county of your new home.
